Firstly, Shareware can mean complete software, which you may try, and if you like it/wish to use it after a trial period is up, you should send a specified amount of money to the programmer(s). This method relies entirely on trust, and the generosity of the user. Unfortunately, due mainly to human nature, this method rarely produces many registrations.
Secondly, there is the more common form of Shareware, which is technically called 'Crippleware'. In this form, the product is partially disabled or incomplete. This means that if the user wishes to use the software to it's full potential, they must register. Currently, all our software which requires registration is crippled in some way.
