Arya: The Dragon's Quest Shareware Version Solutions

This is a partial solution for Arya: The Dragon's Quest. This solution covers the all that is in the Unregistered version of the game. It is not a 'complete' solution, there is still some for for you to do, such as finding locations, solving some of the puzzles, etc. But it should help people who are stuck early on in the game by giving general hints.

Collect all of your belongings from your bedroom, then proceed downstairs and collect the bucket, gold, lamp and oil from your house. Leave your house, but do not go south immediately. Instead, visit the temple which is to the north and east of your house. Inside, find the room with the altar and cross. There is a secret room to the east of this room, but you'll need to find the lever in the altar room to open it. Take the scroll from inside. Now you can go south down the street, and confront Adric and his mob. Don't bother arguing, just leave by the southern gate. Explore the surrounding area, but leave the farm alone for now and don't try to re-enter the village (you'll get killed). To the west, there is a hill with a Dragon waiting at the summit. Don't be afraid to talk to it, it won't bite. The Dragon will ask you to undertake a little task for it, so ask about some of the key points (get some information about who and what you are looking for). When the Dragon asks if you accept, say YES.

The Dragon will then take you to a mountain fort and drop you off. Thoroughly examine the statues to either side of the main gate, and then solve the puzzle to open the door.

Light your lamp, because it's dark in there. somewhere in the center of the castle is a torture chamber. Fill your bucket from the fountain to the north of this room, and then take the spike from the torture chamber. In the southeast wing of the castle, there is a pit with lava at the bottom. Lower the bucket into this pit to boil the water inside. Head west an down until you reach a room containing a candelabra suspended from the ceiling by a chain. Take some of the tallow from the floor and melt it with the bucket. Follow the passage round until you come to a room with some wall carvings. Examine the rags, but be prepared for a shock. Once you have found a scrap of parchment, read it, and make a note of what it says. Examine the carvings, and push the sun. Head south through the secret door and examine the plaque on the wall. Compare the inscription with the parchment you found. Speak the answer to the riddle out loud and leave by the newly appeared exit. There is a barrier of ice blocking you to the south, so melt it. Examine the alcove behind the barrier and take the iron rod you find there. Return to the room where you found the tallow, and examine the chain which holds up the candelabra. Use the rod as a crowbar and pick up the chain (you may need to drop some of the things you are carrying, but you'll need to keep the tallow, rod, spike and lantern for the moment).

Leave the castle and insert the rod into the slot you found earlier when you examined the statues. lubricate the lever with the runny tallow, and pull it. climb up the inside of the statue and insert the spike into the small crack in the wall (Not the large hole). attach the chain to the spike, and lower the chain down the hole. If you left anything in the castle when you took the chain, collect it before climbing down the chain. There is nothing you can do in the caves at the moment, so leave by the southeastern exit (remember to extinguish your lamp, as it will run out of fuel) head north east from the path, and into the woods. From the north of the woods, follow the road until you reach the village (Taking advantage of the travelling merchant's stall if you meet him). Go south until you reach the farm, and find Alfred. Talk to Alfred, and tell him about Adric. hide in alf's cart and wait until you are in the village.

Go to the blacksmith's (to the west). Buy the pick and shovel, and return to the cart. Leave the village (hidden in the cart) and go back through the woods to the caves. In the north west corner of the cavern complex, you will come across a deep chasm, and beyond that, a room with a deep carpet of dust. Search this room to find a skull. In one of the caves near the bottom of the chain you should get an eerie feeling. Dig here to find a box containing a skeletal hand. In the room to the west of the main north-south corridor in the caverns, there is a doorway with a skull carved around it. Push the buttons on the wall and solve the puzzle to gain access to the tomb. In the room at the end there is a tomb. Open this and place the skull and hand into the tomb. talk to the ghost that appears, and take note of what he says, he will prove instrumental to your success in the full game.

Leave the caves, and go into the forest (south from the path outside the caves). Along the northern edge of the forest is a path that leads westwards. Follow this path until you reach the Druidic enclave. Find the Druid (he moves about), and talk to him. Ask the Druid about the solstice, and then about his sickle.

Go back to the woods and head east, across the bridge and up onto the plains, on the southern edge of the plains is a large boulder which can be pushed off the edge and into the river below. Return to the woods and get the sickle from the pool to the south. Return to the Druid and give him the sickle (he will give it you back and ask you to get some mistletoe for him). In the center of the woods is a large oak with a white symbol painted it's trunk. Examine the tree and cut the mistletoe with the sickle. go back to the druid and give him the mistletoe and sickle (in that order). The Druid will give you a pouch full of herbs. Ask the Druid about the herbs and pay attention to what the herbs do.

Return to the caves and climb back up the chain. Go down the stairs near the lava pit until your way is blocked by rocks. use the pick to clear the blockage and go down. When you come to a door don't open it. Instead, search round for a crack in the wall and go through it. burn the Amberroot from the pouch of herbs, wait a short while and go back up. Open the door and get the amulet from around the neck of one of the Trolls. Leave the fortress by the main door and the Dragon will meet you there. Give the amulet to the dragon and return with the Dragon to the village...
